But, do you know what G-10 is?

If you dont, then read on.

For the purposes of this article, we use the term G-10.

What is G-10? Also known as G10, it is a laminate material made with fiberglass and epoxy resin to form a material that is hard, resistant to ultraviolet light, resistant to heat and acts as insulation from electricity. It is popular for use on handguns pistols and revolvers as well as knives.

G-10 laminate is very durable and can be machined to an infinite number of shapes and with all kinds of texture. Springfield Armory 1911 Operator with G-10 grip panels shown here.

However, you may also see it spelled as G10 or called garolite.

Agrip is the interface between your hand and the gun.

G-10 laminate material is frequently used for pistol grips and knife handles. Many manufacturers use it due to its strength and adaptability.

This interface takes a lot of wear, so quality materials are needed.

It frequently requires ongoing care to be kept in optimal condition.

Polymers can be more durable than wood but may crack and some cleaning chemicals may weaken the material.

LOK Ops grips can be had with a significant relief cut to make accessing the magazine release easier.

A modern alternative to both materials is G-10.

But what is G-10 and why is it used on gun and knives designed for performance and hard duty?

So, What Is G-10?

The grips on this Springfield Armory TRP prove that G-10 can be both functional and beautiful.

G-10 is a fiberglass-epoxy composite material that is exceptionally strong, durable and corrosion resistant.

It is quite strong and durable.

Power generation is another software for the material because G-10 does not absorb water.

Since G-10 can be worked to a specific shape, it means it can be contoured to fill the hand.

Additionally, it is non-conductive, good at insulating in high-voltage environments.

G-10 is also used in aircraft equipment like panels and instruments, and marine applications like hulls and canopies.

For many of the same reasons, G-10 is well suited for use in the firearms and knife markets.

G-10 grips can be textured with aggressive serrations to lock a pistol into your hand.

Knife handles are often in dirty environments, or doing rough work like field dressing a deer.

Handguns are routinely doused in cleaning fluids that could destroy wood.

G-10 offers a high strength to weight ratio.

In both knives and guns, light weight is an asset.

What better applications for G-10?

Another benefit of G-10 is that it can be machined like other materials.

1911 Operator® Series

I challenge you to wear out the texture of a knife with a G-10 grip through normal use.

Even with sweaty hands and under water, G-10 ensures better traction and a no-slip grip.

A slew of textures can easily be machined into G-10.

Maintaining G-10 Material

G-10 doesnt really require a lot of maintenance.

Use a toothbrush to scrub out the gunk, or just wash off the dirt and wipe dry.
