The red dot has become ubiquitous.
But, while we tend to call them all red dots, is that always an accurate description?
Not in the case in todays review of the new Viridian GDO 22 optic.
In this GDO 22 review, the author gives the new reflex sight from Viridian Weapons Technology a thorough workout.
(Read my thoughts onred dot vs. green dot here.)
Lets take a look.
The taller mount offers 1/3rdco-witnessing with back-up iron sights on an AR.
The Viridian GDO 22 comes with a pair of QD mounts: one high and one low. This gives you the option of having a lower third co-witness with an AR’s sights with the taller mount.
The body of the optic is made of high-grade aluminum for light weight along with rugged durability.
Speaking of options the GDO 22 features one night vision-compatible and 10 visible options.
I also noted that it did allow for the 1/3rdco-witness with the Edges back-up iron sights.
Mounting and removing the green dot sight is easy with the included QD mounts.
It includes a push button-style flip Picatinny mount and is adjustable to fit and align with your optic.
The body of the optic is made from aluminum and features a rubberized armor coating.
The clear 2.7 eye relief and multi-coated glass for clarity and light transmission were extremely easy on the eyes.
Even with the Viridian 3X magnifier, the complete package is relatively compact and lightweight — something many shooters will appreciate.
The aluminum alloy body felt well-designed and rugged.
This ergonomic handstop is touted as the worlds first AR hand stop with an integrated laser sighting unit.
It utilizes an M-Lok mounting interface and features adjustable windage and elevation.
The Viridian GDO MAG 3X smartly rotates in and out of position depending on your needs. It has a rubberized coating that protects it and aids your grip.
The laser itself is extremely bright and crisp, and also very easy to activate.
Personally, I really dig the design and benefits it presents, especially for such a compact handstop.
Range Time with GDO 22
At the range the units ran well.
The author noted the positive feedback and locking aspect of the magnifier’s push-button design.
The HS1 handstop was ergonomic and a true benefit in terms of hand placement on the handguard for me.
Who knows, maybe well all be calling them green dots here soon!

The Viridian HS1 is a great option to add redundancy to your SAINT’s aiming options.
The GDO 22 and GDO MAG 3X worked well on the range. The aiming dot was bright and crisp, even in full daylight.
