Those are impressive measurements for a flashlight twice its size.

But, how did it hold up?

Boyle tells the tale here.

Shown here is the Streamlight Strion 2020 flashlight. It is being reviewed by author Mike Boyle, a retired police officer and current firearms trainer. He tested the rechargeable battery and brightness levels during his evaluation.

The Strion 2020 rechargeable flashlight was provided to the author by Streamlight for review.

The fastest evolving category in tools that might be used for personal defense is light technology.

Prior to that, I had a long hand-me-down that had a generous appetite for alkaline batteries.

In this photo, the author shows us the Streamlight Strion 2020 flashlight with a folding knife and his police credentials. The purpose of the photo is to demonstrate how small the flashlight is. It is large enough to get your hand on but compact enough to slip easily into a pocket and be carried all day long.

The streamlight Strion 2020 is small enough to be used as an everyday carry flashlight. Unlike some other compact tactical lights, this one uses a rechargeable battery and is extremely bright.

While that particular SL-20 served me until retirement, over the years its role changed.

Mini-flashlights had been around for some time but came up short for any sort of serious software.

Recently, Streamlight introduced the Strion 2020 with expanded features that will no doubt find favor with discriminating users.

Shown here is the author’s Springfield Armory XD 45 semi-automatic pistol with the Streamlight Strion 2020 flashlight. The author believes if you conceal carry a handgun or other firearm you should always have a flashlight with you to identify potential threats. His XD pistol is chambered for the .45 ACP cartridge and has a modified grip and slide. It is also fitted with a Streamlight TLR-7X tactical light.

The author found the Streamlight Strion 2020 worked well for EDC beside his customized Springfield Armory XD pistol chambered for .45 ACP. It is fitted with theStreamlight TLR-7X.

The Strion 2020 is also outfitted with a battery status indicator so there are no surprises.

In the not-so-distant past, a 120-lumen light would have been considered a flame thrower!

The Strion 2020 is equipped with both a tailcap and side button switches.

Shown in this photos is the body switch on the Streamlight Strion 2020. This switch contains a charging indicator. If it is red, the battery is still charging. When the light glows green, the rechargeable battery is full and ready for use.

I did note that Strion 2020 is slightly longer than the original, measuring 6.33 in length.

Weight is 5.70 oz.

Whether or not that makes a difference depends on your real-world applications/needs.

The Streamlight Strion 2020 and ProTac 2L-X are both high-quality flashlights designed for different needs. The Strion 2020 is a rechargeable, high-performance option delivering up to 2,000 lumens, ideal for professional and tactical use with its ergonomic design and rugged durability. In contrast, the ProTac 2L-X is a compact, dual-fuel flashlight with a 500-lumen output, offering portability and versatility for everyday carry and outdoor activities. While the Strion 2020 shines in demanding environments, the ProTac 2L-X excels as a lightweight, flexible option for general use. Both exemplify Streamlight’s commitment to quality and dependability.

The Streamlight Strion 2020 has about the same girth as the popular Streamlight ProTac 2L-X. It’s extra length accommodates a powerful rechargeable battery that will likely be a good trade-off for many users.

The Strion 2020 is shock- and water-resistant, and comes with a limited lifetime warranty.

Quite frankly, it wasnt much of a contest.

As an analogy, I would offer matching up a World War II vintageP-51 Mustangagainst a contemporaryF-35.

Close-up photo of a Streamlight Strion 2020 flashlight battery charger, designed for the flashlight’s rechargeable battery. The compact charger cradles the electric battery securely, showcasing its LED lamp indicator for charging status. Positioned next to the flashlight, which boasts high lumen output and candela performance, the setup highlights its utility for tactical and outdoor use.

A charger that works with both AC and DC sower sources were included with the author’s Strion 2020. This would allow you to mount the charger next to your bed or in your car.

Final Thoughts on this Streamlight Flashlight

So where does it fit?

For staying under the radar, I will continue to favor my Streamlight ProTac 2L-X.

To my thinking, it may very well be a top choice to wear on a police duty belt.

Ultimately it pays to go with a quality light, and the Strion 2020 will not disappoint.
