Naturally, I was intrigued and wanted to give this optional part a try.
Ill also give you the high points on installing the trigger system for yourself.
Why Replace?
The Apex Tactical Action Enhancement Trigger for Springfield Armory’s Hellcat pistol offers an interesting enhancement for this very popular CCW 9mm.
Up front, let me state that I like the Hellcat.
Prior to the introduction of the Pro models, I carried the Hellcat almost exclusively since its introduction.
Ill admit it, I love to tinker with my guns.
The Apex Tactical Action Enhancement Trigger kit comes with everything you need to swap out the factory trigger on the Hellcat.
Installation Process
Before getting started, I urge caution in the installation process.
Although the installation is relatively easy, it does require close attention to detail.
The cost of their expertise is far less than the consequences of a damaged gun.
The Apex Tactical trigger kit is relatively simple. However, you should take your time when installing them to ensure nothing is lost, damaged or overlooked.
To begin, gather all necessary tools including pin punches, gunsmithing hammers and masking tape.
I will not recreate the individual steps in Apexs installation video.
After any gun modification, you should hit the range and test the firearm to ensure everything works properly.
The Springfield Armory Hellcat has relatively few parts. However, several are small and easy to lose. Use a tray or mat to keep them organized so reassembly goes smoothly.
This is especially true for anything that modifies the firing system.
I started with slow-fire drills at close range.
My goal here was simply to ensure the reliability of the new system.
After installation, the author confirmed the operation with dry firing, measured the pull weight and then headed to the shooting range to put rounds downrange.
I used U.S.-manufactured commercial ammunition and military/foreign ammo with harder primers.
I ran through some rapid-fire timed drills followed by longer-range slow fire.
The Apex trigger worked well and felt great, and my groups were tight on the target.
As with anything you change on a firearm, you should spend time with it on the range to ensure it goes “bang” when you want it to.
It was a real treat to get such a good-feeling trigger on a micro-compact pistol like the Hellcat.
Since then, Ive run about 500 more rounds through the gun (both duty and practice loads).
The trigger pull lightened by an additional ounce to 5 lbs., 5 oz.
In the final review, the Apex Tactical trigger kit was easy to install, offered a great feel and kept the gun 100% reliable.
For me, this is right in the sweet range for defensive use.
Again, consult a gunsmith if you are not up to the task.
I highly recommend giving the Apex Tactical Action Enhancement Trigger a try.
