And that can be a harder feature set to combine than you might think.

Nightforce has re-engaged with the short dot class of scopes, showcasing their innovative design through the ATACR line.

Wheres the Leader?

Detailed shot of the Nightforce ATACR 1-8x24 scope mounted on the upper receiver of a Springfield Armory SAINT rifle. The telescopic sight’s matte finish and ergonomic controls for windage and magnification highlight its suitability for military optics and hunting scenarios. The scope’s extra-low dispersion (ED) glass ensures superior brightness and contrast, while the first focal plane reticle provides consistent accuracy at all magnification levels. Designed for both close-quarters combat and long-range engagements, the ATACR complements the rifle’s performance. The combination of the rifle and the Nightforce scope underscores their effectiveness for accurizing, competition shooting, and tactical applications.

The ATACR 1-8X from Nightforce gives you red dot-like performance at close range, yet also the ability to reach out when needed.

For many years, 1X to 4X was the standard.

Nightforce had a nice NXS scope in this class that was well-loved and popular.

Then many of the challengers released 1-6X or 1-6.5X, while Nightforce was strangely silent.

Close-up of the adjustment turret on the Nightforce ATACR 1-8x24 riflescope, showcasing the precision engineering and attention to detail in its design. The turret, marked with clear milliradian increments, allows for accurate windage and elevation adjustments essential for precision rifle shooting and long-range targeting. The rugged construction reflects the durability of Nightforce Optics, designed to withstand demanding conditions in military optics and hunting environments. The turret integrates seamlessly with the scope’s advanced features, including ED glass and the first focal plane reticle, enhancing optical clarity and accuracy. This detail emphasizes the scope’s role as a leading choice for tactical rifle scopes and competition shooting applications.

The ATACR features all the quality you would expect from a Nightforce optic, with top-notch manufacturing and precise adjustments.

Cramming 8X into a very small scope takes some engineering, especially if you still want true 1X performance.

The ATACR 1-8X is an entirely new animal.

Its the most forgiving I have seen, actually.

The shooter aligns the rifle’s reticle with distant targets, testing the optic’s magnification range and ED glass for clarity and accuracy. The riflescope’s advanced features, including windage and elevation adjustments, are demonstrated in a practical field environment. This image highlights the versatility of the ATACR series for tactical rifle scopes and AR-15 platforms, suitable for precision rifle shooting and competition. The prone position emphasizes stability and focus, showcasing the practical application of the scope’s technology in real-world scenarios.

Clay wrung out the ATACR with his SAINT 5.56 and some excellent Black Hills ammo.

Its beyond daylight bright with the illumination turned on, with tweaks to spare.

And most important to me, it has the first-ever truly useful reticle in a short dot.

The true mil grid pattern is a Horus derivative, and absolutely shines at range.

An image looking through the Nightforce ATACR 1-8x24 riflescope, revealing the intricate design of its illuminated first focal plane reticle. The Horus-inspired reticle grid displays precise milliradian increments, aiding in accurate targeting for windage and elevation corrections. The advanced ED glass ensures high clarity and minimal distortion, providing a bright and sharp view of the target. The reticle remains consistent across all magnification levels, making the scope ideal for varied applications, including military optics, competition shooting, and hunting. The visible cardinal points on the reticle assist in rapid target acquisition and precise adjustments. This view underscores the scope’s capabilities as part of the ATACR series, designed for demanding tactical and precision shooting scenarios. This article is a review.

The Horus-derived reticle in the ATACR is excellent and really allows you to reach out at range.

The grid allows precise holdovers to 10 mils of elevation, and 5 mils of wind.

The ATACR 1-8X isnt cheap, but innovation rarely is.

If you need a true do-everything, hell-and-back optic, this is the one to buy.
