For the few sight mounting patterns that are not natively supported, an adaptor plate can also be used.
In this article, Justin Opinion takes a look at the EchelonVariable Interface Systemoptics mount.
With their new Variable Interface System.
The revolutionary new Variable Interface System allows most optics to mount directly to the slide of the Springfield Echelon. An adaptor plate can still be used for those few that don’t natively fit.
In all, over 30 different optics can be mounted to the Echelon without having to buy anything extra.
However, Springfield offers plate systems for theAimpoint ACROand Docter footprints, which require a larger foorprint area.
This was done to allow for the widest range of options for the pistol.
The Echelon Variable Interface System provides easy-mounting compatibility for over 30 different optics.
Changing optics from one footprint configuration to another on the Echelon is quite simple.
The self-locking pins do much more than just make our lives simpler as if that wasnt enough.
For the rest of us, it just means a more stable mount with a much more reliable zero.
The three pin sets provided with the Echelon are used to fit multiple optics without the need for adapter plates that add height and weight.
Organized and properly stored parts is rule number one!
This is important to get correct, because they are shaped to provide the lateral locking and proper fit.
Place the teardrop shaped pins into the teardrop shaped front holes with the flat side down.
The forward pins are marked to indicate Left and Right for proper orientation and installation.
The raised post side with the marking for left and right should always be at the top.
Those are really the only rules to remember when swapping out the pins.
Its that simple and youre done!
The pins are small, as shown by the left-front pin from Pin Set 2. The author found using a simple tweezer the best way to install and remove them.
Ive seen companies that charge significantly more than that for a single adapter plate.
And for the consumer, that same low cost of manufacturing shows in the retail price of the gun.
Better co-witnessing with open sights and a more stable connection with a truer zero whats not to love?
The Variable Interface System pins not only provide the perfect fit for your optic of choice, their patent-pending unique design also provides locking against lateral movement — resulting in a more reliable zero.
By using a flexible pin arrangement, Springfield Armory created a system that allows you to mount most optics directly to the slide.
