How well does this pistol comp work?

The answer may surprise you.

The Griffin Micro Carry Comp was provided by the company to the author for review.

Shown in this photo is the Griffin Micro Carry Comp attached to the threaded barrel of a Springfield Armory, Inc. XD-M Elite Tactical OSP semi-automatic pistol. The handgun has a dark flat dark earth, or FDE, finish.

While the XD-M Elite Tactical OSP comes with a thread protector, the author decided to try out this upgraded unit from Griffin Armament.

Im 53 years old.

However, I find that for some reason I just cant do it.

In my world, threaded barrels must sport either a muzzle attachment or thread protector.

The Griffin Micro Comp works well for concealed carry and home defense. Comps like this help reduce muzzle rise on all kinds of carry guns like the Springfield Armory Hellcat, SIG P365 and Glock semi-automatic pistols. Being able to reduce muzzle rise on a firearm is useful as it makes the gun torque less and gets you back on the shooting target quickly.

According to the author, unprotected muzzle threads are just unnatural. He finds that he simply cannot abide by naked threads.

Thats a fringe benefit of the mild OCD that has made me professionally successful.

Up until now, those thread protectors were otherwise fairly useless bits of kit.

Short Compensator or Improved Thread Protector?

This Springfield XD-M Elite is equipped with a red dot sight and tactical flashlight in addition to the o-ring secured compensator. Reflex optics - like a muzzle comp - help to make the pistol easier to shoot. The author noticed reduced muzzle flip on the shooting range and a reduced split time between shorts. In this gear review, he used a variety of 9mm loads including 115 grain, 124 grain and 147 grain bullets.

The Springfield Armory XD-M Elite Tactical OSP is shown here fitted out with a Holosun HS507C V2 reflex sight, StreamlightTLR-8 G green laser and light, and Griffin Armament Micro Carry Comp.

This means faster follow-up shots and shorter split times with no incremental weight or space deficit.

The machine is cut from 17-4 stainless and black nitride treated for rugged durability.

It is also sufficiently small as to manage most any existing holster solutions.

A close up of the Griffin comp used by the author during shooting drills. The compensator acts like a muzzle brake - though with much reduced blast and noise. The comp is small, not adding much size and weight to the overall carry gun package. The comp makes a lot of sense for many owners and enthusiasts for faster recovery during rapid fire.

The Griffin Armament Micro Carry Comp is a thread protector with a twist. This modest little accessory helps mitigate felt recoil.

This pistol is the ultimate evolutionary iteration of the storied XD-M line of superlative combat handguns.

Chambered for the 9x19mm Parabellum cartridge, the duty sized pistol does not have a lot of recoil.

However, the compensator promises to reduce recoil even further.

Shown installed on an XD-M Elite, the compensator does not require any gunsmithing to change the recoil to a softer impulse and get markedly better control of the gun. Many shooters claim the recoil is now straight back which helps keep your gun sight on target. This offers a better experience for the shooter to significantly reduce recoil, provide markedly better control, and speed up shots while decreasing group sizes. All for a small device that mounts to the gun barrel without interfering with your handgun holster. The same comp can be used on your Glock or SIG Sauer P365 if you wish. For a firearm, the length of the gear is impressive - you just screw it on.

The Micro Carry Comp is manufactured from stainless steel and black nitride treated.

However, the comp offers that tiny little edge when compared to a gun not so equipped.

The Griffin Armament Micro Carry Comp is cool as can be and offers that tiniest little edge.

And, it works well with the aforementioned OCD.
