Two of those reasons have to do with how well it carries in two particular locations on my person.
The other two reasons are important but often unsung features.

If a traditional holster is inappropriate, consider carrying the Springfield XD 9mm subcompact pistol in a belly band holster. A quality rig will work with a range of clothing styles including athletic wear.
Whats worth keeping in mind is that you may not lose any concealment advantage by switching to OWB.
But you almost certainly will gain an advantage in being able to more quickly or handily grasp the grip.
If youre more of the tucked-in shirt bang out, carrying in a belly band allows this.
Carrying every day for self-defense can mean adapting your clothing choices to match your gear. The Springfield XD 9mm Sub-Compact is a compact package that makes concealment easier.
You just have to practice the whole process of clearing garments and getting a good grip on the stocks.
That can be a fine line.
But, its meant to be felt more than it is meant to be seen.
For a police officer, everyday carry includes a quality backup gun. The XD9 Sub-Compact is excellent as a standalone pistol. It is excellent as a backup to afull size XD 9mm duty pistol.
If it is not protruding, the gun is not ready to fire.
Neither of these features, in and of themselves, are the end-all, be-all of concealed carry features.
But their usefulness is clearly evident when the XD Sub-Compact is holstered/concealed.
Springfield Armory’s XD line of handguns includes a cocked striker indicator at the rear of the slide. You can quickly determine if the gun’s striker is cocked by feeling for the raised pin.

Springfield Armory includes a loaded chamber indicator in the XD pistols. When a cartridge is in the chamber a small lever raises above the top of the slide offering a visual and tactile indication.
Even in the Sub-Compact form, the XD is an easy-shooting pistol with full-size sights. It is a mature platform that has proved ultra-reliable.
