If your dominant hand was out of action, could you still draw your defensive pistol with your weak hand?
Is your gun in an ankle holster?

The first fell face down with a wound that paralyzed him temporarily from the waist down.

The author squarely faces a 12 o’clock target.
So, we need techniques that can get to the gun from the front or the back.
This helps bring the pistol in reach of the opposite-side hand.
Your hand and arm are going to want to pull the gun to the rear.DONT!
Moving just the arm, he can only reach to here.
!Your holster often wont allow it.
Pull the gun UPWARD until you feel it come free.
You will probably not have a perfect hold.
Pivoting the hip and raising the wounded shoulder while lowering good shoulder should get enough range of movement to allow a firing grasp before the draw.
Re-grip tightly, and youre ready to fight back.
Across the Front Draw
Choice of technique depends heavily on range of movement here.
More power to em: most of us cant.
A small number of shooters will have enough body flexibility and range of movement to just reach over, take a firing position, draw and shoot.
These are not, however, universal techniques.

Bring the gun on target, and you are ready to return fire.
