By the middle of the 1980s, those folks got their wish and the M9 was adopted.

The swap-over wasnt instant, and the M1911 continued to serve regular troops for several more years.

Although the military selected the M9 9mm pistol in the mid-80s, the M1911 continued to serve several more years. Some special operations units continue to carry it today.

Several special operations units received approval to continue to carry the 1911.

I stand by that.

However, I want to expand on that thought to ensure my full meaning is understood.
