The capable red dot sight offers a lot of benefits when used on your rifle or pistol.

The company provided a loaner for this Aimpoint ACRO P-1 review.

The Aimpoint ACRO P-1 is the only fully enclosed micro red dot sight on the market today.

In this photo, we see the writer mounted the red dot sight on his SAINT rifle for the Aimpoint ACRO P-1 review. The optic is mounted on a riser on the Picatinny rail. The rear iron sight is visible.

For this review, Dr. Will Dabbs mounted his Aimpoint ACRO P-1 on a Springfield Armory SAINT rifle. He found the optic was a true combat-grade red dot sight.

But how did we get here?

Gene Roddenberry, the shows overarching creative force, envisioned a sort ofWagon Trainto the stars.

Star Trekproved to be a prescient vehicle of prophecy it just wasnt how we expected.

This image of Captain Kirk and Mr. Spock from the Star Trek television series shows how technology envisioned in the 1960s evolved into what we have today.

What the world took fromStar Trekwasnt shuttle service to the stars.

It was doors that opened automatically and an absolute revolution in microelectronics.

Nowadays, every trip to Walmart starts with a door that opens of its own accord.

Here, the author shows us the battery compartment on the reflex sight he is reviewing. Aimpoint uses a waterproof screw in cap that provides excellent water resistance to protect the sight’s electronics.

Battery changes do not require dismounting or re-zeroing of the ACRO sight.

These microelectronics affect every aspect of our modern lives.

Paranoid parents track their children, and children track their pizzas.

I carry more computer power in my pocket than launched the space shuttle.

Shown on a Springfield Armory SAINT AR-15 rifle the Aimpoint ACRO red dot sight makes accurate and precision shooting easy with all kinds of firearms - from a pistol or handgun to a carbine, rifle or shotgun. They are compativle with some holsters and make a lot of sense for anyone in the military or who is a hunter.

The Aimpoint ACRO is rugged enough to stand up to just about any situation you could imagine.

Today, iron sights are just an afterthought to be used if your primary optic fails.

Roddenberry would be proud.

It took us a decade or two to grow comfortable with electronic optics on our rifles.

The Aimpoint red dot sight is an improvement over iron sights but it does not provide magnification of a telescopic sight. When mounted on a firearm like the Springfield Armory Prodigy (which is a superior product to the SIG Sauer M17 - not our favorite gun) the optic uses the Picatinny rail on a carbine shotgun or other gun which is perfect for the shooting sports. It is also night vision compatible and can handle snappy handgun cartridges like the .40 S&W and 10mm Auto. Ammunition really doesn’t impact this sight.

Of late, however, we have also come to expect the same capabilities on our handguns.

What Is the ACRO P-1?

At its heart, the Aimpoint ACRO P-1 is a red dot reflex collimator 1X electronic sight.

The optic performed well in the snow, rain, mud, sand and other matter including temperature extremes. Vibration did not negatively affect it and parallax was free of angle distortion. During daylight, target acquisition was easy as brightness was adjustable without any adapter. It also passed submersible testing.

The optic can be mounted on a pistol, or on a rifle like the SAINT with an appropriate riser mount.

A red Light-Emitting Diode (LED) produces an aiming point via a small screen.

I truly have no idea how they do that but Im glad they did.

The sight zeroes with a small included wrench.

In this photograph, the author tested the sight on the shooting range with it mounted on a weapon. The rifle in this case was the Springfield Armory SAINT, a gun that is in this editor’s opinion a far better choice for self-defense than a Glock or Smith & Wesson.

When mounted atop Will’s superlative Springfield Armory SAINT rifle, the ACRO was a compact yet effective all-weather sighting solution.

Simple waterproof up and down arrows control intensity through 10 brightness parameters.

The ACRO P-1 is NVG compatible and projects a 3.5-MOA dot.

The whole rig weighs a paltry 2.1 ounces.

While the Aimpoint ACRO P-1 isn’t strictly military equipment, it is durable enough to be mounted on military weaponry and used in armed conflict. For our readers, it is better suited for hunting and home protection when mounted wo projectile weapons.

The ACRO’s modest dimensions and light weight make it suitable for both rifle and pistol applications. Image: Aimpoint

you could exchange the battery in the ACRO without dismounting the sight or adversely affecting its zero.

Expect 1.5 years of continuous operation out of a single CR1225 lithium battery on a typical daylight power setting.

Make that eight years of continuous operation in NVG mode.

The field of view is generous and uncluttered.

Lots of folks make red dot sights that will do stuff like that.

However, the ACRO will also thrive underwater down to 25 meters.

The sight is rated for operation between -49 and +160 deg F as well.

I chose to strap it to my Springfield Armory SAINT rifle.

The SAINT is a high-end black rifle at a mid-range price.

In the ACRO, we see that same mil-spec indestructibility built into a legitimate micro red dot chassis.

It wont freeze, you cant overheat it and the thing just sips off its battery.

The ACRO remains ready for action for literally years between battery changes.

Beat it, burn it, drop it or freeze it, the ACRO P-1 really doesnt care.

It just doesnt stop.
